The most valid and reliable compassion measure, the SCQ, is now available in Spanish!

The Research Behind the SCQesp

The study was conducted in partnership with our colleagues at the University of Valencia. The results allow researchers, clinicians, system analysts, and healthcare leaders to assess Spanish speaking patients experiences of compassion using the most valid and reliable compassion measure available—The Sinclair Compassion Questionnaire (SCQ).

The 15 question SCQesp was validated among 303 Spanish patients in both hospital and outpatient settings. The results speak for themselves as the SCQesp demonstrated excellent reliability with a Cronbach's α of 0.98, composite variance of 0.98, and stratified variance of 0.78. In the same study SCQesp-SF (short-form), consisting of 5 questions, also exhibited excellent validity and reliability results.

Accessing and Using the SCQesp

The SCQesp, SCQesp-SF, and SCQ adapted versions (for different patient populations and clinical contexts) complement our English, French, and Mandarin translations, with other adaptions and translations from around the world arriving soon.  You can download all versions of the SCQ by clicking 'Get the SCQ' at the top of our webpage or by clicking here.

By integrating the SCQesp into research, patient care, and patient experience and quality care surveys, we can now begin to improve what Spanish patients have long considered to be the secret ingredient of high-quality care—compassion—a secret ingredient of the patient experience that transcends cultural and linguistic boundaries.
